Take Advantage of Your Summer

What’s not to love about summer vacation? While summer is the perfect time to take a much-needed break and recharge your mind, it’s also a fantastic time to catch up on things you don’t have time for during the school year. Here’s a list of ways to stay productive over your summer vacation!

Get a part-time job.

Getting work experience can help you learn about different careers and gain skills that will help you in whatever you do after high school. Whether you choose an internship, volunteer, or get a summer job, do something you enjoy and something that will help make your resume stronger!

Study for the ACT or SAT.

Prepping for the ACT/SAT may not be the most exciting way to spend your summer, but it will help you feel less stressed when your schedule kicks back up in the fall. Brainstorm fun ways to incorporate your test prep into your summer schedule: review your vocabulary flashcards while lounging by the pool or form a study group with your friends. Spending 30 minutes each day doing a few prep problems will give you a generous head-start without sacrificing the leisure of your vacation.

Pick a hobby just for you.

Pick a hobby or project you genuinely enjoy and something you wish you had more time to do during the school year. Worry less about how this activity looks on resumes or applications and focus more on how it makes you feel.

Ultimately, your summer should be relaxing and fun! If you don’t have the energy to pursue extra projects, it’s okay. Be gentle and patient with yourself, and do what you can. When rested, you’ll have the motivation to try new things and pursue your goals.
